About urinary tract infection – Prevention and Treatment

urinary tract infection, urinary tract infection or, is colonization of microorganisms in the urinary tract in an amount such and such a way that causes or symptoms occur. When just the urethra and bladder is affected, it is called urinary tract infection. When the ureters and kidneys are affected, the name used is “upper urinary tract infection.”

CAUSES /> <br uti
UI is commonly caused by bacteria that are present in the normal flora in and around body openings and in the digestive tract such as the bacterium Escherichia coli. Most often the bacteria enter the urinary tract through the urethra opening. Women more easily get urinary tract infection because they have a shorter urethra so that bacteria have a shorter way to reach the bladder. />
<br diseases chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis normally not called uti, even though these infections often affect urinary tract.

defects in the urinary system can make a person susceptible for UTI, such as strictures or valve-like structures in the urethra and defects that reflux from the bladder through the urethra. physical damage to the urinary tract can also make it easier for bacteria to colonize and make infections.

The use of catheters or other instruments in the urinary tract can introduce bacteria and cause damage to the bacteria that give an easy opportunity to infect.
/> THE SYMPTOMS OF UTI

UTI can occur acutely with very distinct symptoms. UTI can also develop slowly and chronically with small symptoms for a long time.

The symptoms by lower UTI are:

– Itching during urination.
– Pain in the region of the bladder.
– Urgency of urination, although there is little urine in the bladder.
– Need to urinate at night.
– Fever, usually mild.
– Dark urine with bad smell.
– Pus from urethra or blended with the urine.
– Sometimes blood in the urine.

In the upper urinary tract infection the same symptoms often occur, and in addition these symptoms will be felt:

– Nausea and vomiting.
– Pain in the sides of the back and sides of the stomach, at the height of the kidneys, and often downwards towards the bladder region.
– Tightness in the stomach area.
– High fever with chills and shivering.
– Fort fatigue.

The symptoms of urinary tract infection should always be investigated, especially blood in the urine, since the cause may be a more serious illness.

Complications caused by urinary tract infection

upper UTI, the infection can spread deep into the kidney tissues and destroy the structures that excrete urine. This gradual process can lead to kidney failure. The infection can cause growth of scar tissue in the urinary tract, such as the urethra, which causes obstruction and problems with urination.

In men the infection can spread to the prostate and destroy the reproductive organs and reproductive system function.

When a pregnant woman suffers from UTI, children tend to be born with very low birth weight.

UTI is diagnosed by a urine sample. The sample is analyzed for substances produces by the disease process, like nitrites, leukocytes or leukocyte esterase. Also performs urine culture to confirm the presence of the bacteria.

When children have been diagnosed with UTI, in is useful to perform urine flow studies and radiologic studies of the urinary tract afterwards to see if there is reflux of urine to the bladder or other abnormalities urinary tract. This is sometimes done also by adults if UTI often recur.

The standard treatment for urinary tract infection

Urinary tract infection is commonly treated with antibiotics such as trimethoprim, cephalosporins, nitrofurantoin or a fluoroquinolone (ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin) .

Children who have been diagnosed with a urinary tract defect are often the subject of a long-term treatment with low doses of antibiotics, but recent studies have cast doubt on the validity of this scheme.

Although the standard treatment is generally effective, does not always manage to beat down one of these infections. Treatment with low doses of antibiotics to prevent new outbreaks of UTI can give side effects and is not always effective.

Alternative measures for treatment can be useful, in addition to standard medications, and these alternatives may be useful to prevent new outbreaks of UTI.

Cranberry and blueberry can help against UTI by eliminating the bacteria causing urinary tract infection. These herbs can be taken as juice or tea, dried berries, and are also concentrates and capsules.

The type of sugar D-mannose also seems to help eliminating infectious bacteria from the urinary tract.

blueberry, cranberry and D-mannose appear to help by sticking to the bacteria or the lining of the urinary tract and make it difficult for bacteria to adhere to the inside walls and infect the tissues. In contrast, the bacteria are flushed out through urine.

Goldenseal root and Uva ursi also have effects against bacteria infecting the urinary tract.

Remedies that alter the PH of the urine more acidic or more alkaline also seem to counteract infectious bacteria. It appears that the bacteria thrive only in a very narrow pH range. mineral supplements that contain citrate alkaline pH change in one direction, and may be used for this purpose. Bilberry seems to give a more acidic urine and helps also this way.

Some studies indicate that acupuncture can help prevent further outbreaks of urinary tract infection.

LIFESTYLE MEASURES TO PREVENT UTI

Many lifestyle measures can be used to prevent the outbreak of UTI and help cure a urinary tract infection .

– Wear clothing that makes the lower body to get cold is useful for the experience of many peoples.

– both drinking water causes the infectious bacteria that washes easier.

– To urinate after intercourse and cleaning the urethral opening eliminates infectious bacteria transmitted by the sexual act before they can invade the urinary tract.

– The use of condoms by anal intercourse can hinder infectious bacteria in the rectum to enter a man’s urethra.

– After anal intercourse, vaginal intercourse should be avoided without a good wash first.

– Having a good intimate hygiene, and cleaning the front and back of the toilet can hinder bacteria from entering the urinary tract.

– Hot baths sitting no soap that can irritate can ease the pain during, UTI and may enhance the healing process.

Hi,
I have a male tabby 10 years old who has had problems urinating. I have taken him to the vet twice now and there are no crystals, no blockages, no stones, no bacteria or infection. The last time I took him, we left with no treatments… and I just saw him straining to go again (been a week since I have taken him). I have read through all of the information I can find on this, and am not coming up with much. Since he doesn't have the crystals or stones, changing his diet I guess won't help much… are there any home remedies that can help him? I know people with this problem can drink cranberry juice every day, etc. is there anything like this for cats? It makes me sad to see him straining like he is and I'm thinking that it must hurt or feel uncomfortable. It seems like there aren't any options though at this point, unless I am missing something. Can someone help?

I had some stuff called Tinkle Tonic that I got from one of my vets. I don't have a bottle around so I can't give you contact information. There are a number of complicated things in my natural remedies book. I would need to know what the pH of your cat's urine is to get a remedy reference for you. The natural pH of the cat is about 6.5 – slightly acidic. You can play around with that with a number of supplements according to the pH reading. If the reading is too alkaline the cat can have painful crystals, if you get it too acidic it can cause the stones. So call the vet on Monday to see if he knows about the Tinkle Tonic (love that name!) and find out what the last pH reading was from the urinalysis. Then you can email me and I will respond with something from my veterinary book.

One vet is very firm – "Stop the dry food and nibbling. Stop the dry food. It's a must! Dry food is an absolute obstacle to cure. I am able to resolve about half of my cases just by having the owner switch to a canned food or a wetter food." Michele Yasson, DVM.

My Spookie would spike urines up to a pH of NINE, almost off the chart for alkalinity. I had started making a raw meat diet for my cats and when he ate that he never had any more problem. He never had any dry food again. The raw diet is the natural diet for the cat and keeps the urine at the proper pH level.

The book I reference at the bottom is available through Amazon for $15 or less. It might be a good thing to have so you could read all the information there on this problem. It is extensive and I could not possible type it all out for you.

My niece needs this information. Because she has a strong indication that she may be pregnant she does not want to take a prescription antibiotic.

This is what you do for UTI during pregnancy [I did it myself]:
Take 5,000 mg of Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C, the cheap kind. Other forms of vitamin C won't work for this, it has to be Ascorbic Acid) every day for 5 days.
Since the unborn child is developing rapidly and may not be able to tolerate a sudden deprivation of Vitamin C after 5 days of 5,000mg, it is vital to taper off. The 6th day, take 4,000 mg. The 7th day take 3,000 mg. The 8th day take 2,000 mg. The 9th day take 1,000 mg. The 10th day go back to your normal intake.
I did this and it worked fine, no problem. My doctor advised this and warned me of the necessity to taper off.
If you are not pregnant you don't have to taper off, just stop after 5 days.

Getting pain while passing urine , Any tablets for U T I , in BANGALORE ,INDIA?

A UTI requires an antibiotic to clear it up. Cranberry juice does absolutely nothing according to new studies posted on the web and in many articles in lots of medical magazines. Doctors used to recommend cranberry juice to help (not cure) a UTI. Today they have had to rethink their own advice. However, drinking cranberry juice or any other liquid is always recommended when you have a UTI. Left untreated, it can lead to kidney infection and other problems…See a doctor….It is possible that you could also have a kidney stone. or even and STD. There are many causes of painful urination…

To learn more go to http://www.CaptainColon.com or http://www.VolcanoHealing.com You’ve had abdominal pain for several hours, and there doesn’t seem to be any relief in sight. Should you wait it out or seek help right away? Abdominal pain is common. Episodes often stem from overeating or eating too much of a certain type of food. Sometimes a viral or bacterial infection (gastroenteritis) is responsible. In other cases, the pain may be an early warning sign of something more serious. But, you can’t always judge the severity of its cause by how much pain you feel. Cramping from a viral infection or simple gas can cause severe pain, while potentially life-threatening problems, such as colon cancer or appendicitis, may cause little or no pain initially.
Where does it hurt? The number of organs in your abdomen and the complex signals they send can make it tough to pinpoint the cause of abdominal pain. Sometimes, the location of your pain can help narrow the list. But, it’s very difficult to know the cause of the abdominal pain solely by its location, even for an experienced doctor.
Navel area Pain near your bellybutton can be related to a small intestine disorder or an inflammation of your appendix (appendicitis).
The appendix is a small, finger-shaped pouch that projects out from your colon on the lower right side of your abdomen. If it gets obstructed, it may become inflamed and filled with pus. Without treatment, an infected appendix can burst and cause a serious infection (peritonitis). In addition to abdominal pain, appendicitis may cause nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, fever, and the urge to pass gas or have a bowel movement.
Upper middle abdomen–The epigastric area directly above the navel in the upper middle section of the abdomen is where you might feel pain ociated with stomach disorders. Persistent pain in this area may also signal a problem with your pancreas or gallbladder.Upper left abdomen–It’s uncommon to experience pain here. When you do, it may suggest a stomach, colon, spleen or pancreas problem.Upper right abdomen–Intense pain in the upper right abdomen is often related to inflammation of the gallbladder. The pain may extend to the center of your abdomen and penetrate to your back. Occasionally, an inflamed pancreas, colon or duodenum can cause pain in this area as well.Lower middle abdomen–Pain below the navel that spreads to either side may signify a colon disorder. Pain in this area may also be a symptom of kidney stones or a urinary tract infection. For women, pain in this area may also indicate pelvic inflammatory disease.Lower left abdomen–Pain here often suggests a problem in the lower colon, where food waste is expelled. Possible causes include inflammatory bowel disease or an infection in the colon known as diverticulitis.
Lower right abdomen–Inflammation of the bowel may cause pain in your lower right abdomen. The pain of appendicitis also may spread to the lower right abdomen. Other possible causes of lower right abdominal pain include hernia and ectopic pregnancy.Migrating pain–Abdominal pain has the unusual ability to travel along deep nerve pathways and emerge at sites away from the source of the problem. Pain related to gallbladder inflammation, for example, can spread to your chest and your right shoulder. Pain from a pancreas disorder may radiate up between your shoulder blades. This is often called “referred pain.”Alternatively, abdominal pain may be referred pain from another condition, such as a heart attack or pneumonia. Managing the pain For mild abdominal pain caused by something you ate, it may help to sip water or suck on ice chips. When you feel better, try small amounts of bland foods, such as applesauce or bananas. When to see your doctor Though most cases of abdominal pain aren’t serious, sometimes medical treatment is essential. Consult your doctor if: The pain is severe, recurrent or persistent The pain gets worse. You can’t eat because of the pain. You also have a high fever or chills along with the pain. Seek emergency help if: The pain is accompanied by shortness of breath, dizziness, bleeding, vomiting or a high fever. The abdominal pain is sudden and severe. The pain radiates to your chest, neck or shoulder. You vomit blood. You find blood in your stool or your stool turns black. You find blood in your urine. Your abdomen is swollen and tender.
