I thought I had a fever, so I took Tylenol. I didn’t get better after a day, so I started taking Vicks’ DayQuil. After I searched on the internet, my symptons appear to be uti. Can’t see my doctor until tomorrow. Should I stop taking the Vicks’ cold medicine? Thanks.

It shouldn’t matter.

I am peeing quite often, even if it is not a lot. I have the urge to go, and tiny comes out. It is painful, I’ve seen a couple of blood spots… but not too many. Any help?

Yeah, you have a urinary tract infection. It’s caused by bacteria getting into your urethra, and causing an infection. There are two ways to get rid of this- see your physician and he’ll give your antibiotics, or you can cure it at home. For at home, you’ll need to drink a ton of water, and get some cranberry pills. YOu don’t want the juice, as there is a ton of sugar in it, and the pills are more concentrated and work faster. Take three pills a day for the next 3-5 days, and you should be fine. Either way, you need to get it fixed.

What are these symptoms?, and if they are not alike what are the differences?

Yeast infections can leave traces in the urine, as yeast will also populate the outside of the vagina and be flushed off by urine. The stick that shows whether or not you have a UTI measures the pH of your urine (the acidity), and as a UTI gives off an acidic reading (negative on the pH scale), yeast gives off a basic reading (positive on the pH scale), which throws it off.

Bladder infections are just that- Infections of the bladder. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are infections of the entire tract, the bladder, the urethra (the tube through which the urine flows) and sometimes the ureters (tubes connecting the kidneys to the bladder) and the kidneys as well. UTIs will cause the feeling of having to urinate frequently, as well as (sometimes) burning, stinging, or itching during urination, and a strong odor from the urine.

About a month ago, I went to the doctor with the symptoms of a urinary tract infection. He put some test strip in a urine sample, saw there was bacteria in the urine, and prescribed antibiotics for a UTI. That medication was Sulfer-based and turns out I'm allergic to it. So I went back to the docs and got a different prescription. A week later, I still didn't feel any relief, so I went back again, and was prescribed Macrobid, being told this should do the trick. I then got my period a few days later, and the UTI symptoms disappeared until yesterday, a day after my period ended. Now today and yesterday I have had the UTI symptoms again…I'm so sick of it, and am wondering why it's not going away. Could it be something else? Any idea what it may be? Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Just as an added note, I have finished all medication prescribed to me (apart from the first ones that I am allergic to). But I have finished two courses of antibiotics, and have drank so much cranberry juice in the past month I swear I'm turning into a cranberry.

Go back to your doctor. Tell him what happen.
Maybe the antibiotic he prescribed are not doing any good on you. And besides UTI symptoms will not easily gone unless you finished the entire days left to take your medicine. Sometimes if your infection are high the treatment can last for 2 weeks and go to the doctor and perform again a urine test for assurance.
It's not easy to had an UTI but if you follow everything your doctor told you eventually you'll be alright.

i hear that antibiotics don't clear up the infection all the way" i have had two UTI's and each time i do a follow up the doctor says im clear of infection but my symptoms same and or worse daily i have urgency that won't go away no pain ever. Is it possible that a urine culture and or dipstick test won't show infection when there really is still infection left in the bladder or urethra i have irritation and urgency feeling all day all night and im very concerned because doctor says im clear of infection?! Would a urologist be able to help me further than a doctor, what should i do? thanks soo much, Brian Taylor. im Male 22
what im feeling can it be left over infection? a mind thing? whatever it is i can't figure it out it's been 8 months since i took doxycyline hyclate and been 5 times back to doctor's each time says no infection?!

Hi Brian

You can ask for a referral to a urologist.
They would do a bladder scan with ultrasound and this could check that you don't have bladder stones which gives the same feeling as a urinary tract infection.
You should also have your blood sugar level checked as a constant need to urinate could be the start of diabetes.
Urgency could be linked to prostatitis, an inflammation of your prostate which usually gives flu like symptoms as well.
Finally you could have an irritable bladder which may have been left by the urinary tract infection, so this can be treated with medication. It is usually a feeling that you want to go to the toilet but then don't pass much when you go.
See what your doctor says and if are getting no where ask to see a urologist.
Let me know how you get on
Good luck, Brian.
Regards

Medical Malpractice and Patient Education Company Patient ED @ 617-379-1582 INFO
Your doctor has recommended that you undergo a Cystoscopy. But what exactly does that mean?
The lower urinary tract allows your body to store and release urine.
It’s made up of two parts, the bladder and the urethra.
Your bladder is a hollow organ that expands as it fills with urine. Because it is made of muscular tissue, it can also contract and force urine to pass out of the body, through the urethra. Your urethra carries urine from the bladder to the outside of your body.
Your doctor feels that it is necessary to examine the interior of the urethra and bladder, to try to determine the cause of a problem that you may be having.
Medical Malpractice
Symptoms that may call for a routine Cystoscopy include:

    * Persistent infection of the urinary tract
* Bladder stones
* Bleeding while urinating
* Irritation due to polyps, or
* Changes to the bladder caused by cancer.
Medical Malpractice
Cystoscopy is a simple procedure during which your doctor will insert a well-lubricated, instrument called a cystoscope through your urethra and into your bladder.
The cystoscope allows your doctor to visually inspect the interior of your bladder. It also allows your doctor to remove small pieces of tissue for later examination and even to crush small bladder stones, should any be present.
Any tissue that your doctor removes from your bladder will be sent immediately to a laboratory for analysis. Your doctor will ask the laboratory to check for any sign of cancer or other abnormality.
