Can using tampons cause urinary tract infection?

I seem to get a urinary infection round my period.. though I use tampons as directed. Change every 3 hours or so.. and I use the correct size according to flow. I always make sure to change very regularly? anything else that could maybe causing it?

If you are prone to UTI's which I am, it could definitely cause a UTI. Basically the bacteria rests close to your urethra (opening where you pee) and that type of bacteria tends to climb up the urethra and cause infections. What I do is: I started drinking 1 tall glass of 100% d-mannose a day and I have not had one in about 2 years. Good Luck and God Bless.

Have you seen a doctor? I had an HSG and learned that any infection is worse just before a woman's cycle. Do you hold your water for a long time before using the bathroom? That would definitely cause a UTI. Try drinking cranberry juice to eliminate it.

Are you sexually active? Do you have unprotected sex? Men can give you UTI's – especially if they have other partners besides you – and if you are sleeping with the same man then he keeps giving the bacteria back to you. Doctors will never tell you this but it is true. I had a miserable time with UTI's when I was engaged to a man and it seemed I was always at the doctor for another UTI. Eventually, after some years, we broke up and did not see each other anymore. I have never had a UTI since. I asked a nurse practitioner at the clinic where I worked about this and she told me the truth. Doctors told me to take large doses of Vitamin C and drink cranberry juice but no one ever told me it might be sexually transmitted. Get tested.

Verify that you have an infection by doing a urinalysis thru a lab report. It is easily cured with a prescription. If you are ok between times, it may be something else like a trich or clamydia. If you are just sore, try switching to pads and see if it makes a difference. Best wishes

use pads for a couple of months and see if that makes a difference, if it does then the tampons are bothering you.
