what is the difference between a urinary track infection and a kidney infection?

My whole left side of my body hurts, this is what it did when i was pregant with my first child. Could this have any thing to do with being pregant?

Kidney infection (pyelonephritis) is a specific type of urinary tract infection (UTI) that generally begins in your urethra or bladder and travels up into your kidneys. If not treated properly, kidney infection can permanently damage your kidneys or spread to your bloodstream and cause a life-threatening infection. Prompt medical attention is required.

Your urinary system is composed of your kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. All play a role in removing waste from your body. Your kidneys filter waste from your blood, adjust blood levels of many substances, and conserve or excrete water from your system depending on your body's needs. Tubes called ureters carry urine from your kidneys to the bladder, where it's stored until it exits your body through the urethra.
Kidney infection usually begins when bacteria enter the urinary tract through the urethra and then start to multiply. So having intercourse may even cause one.

Being pregnant your body has many changes. You get exams, still have intercourse so on. The baby itself no does not cause a UTI.
Good luck hun and congrats on the new baby.

if you are pregnant this is NOT a common thing to have pain on the whole left side of your body
The difference of urinary tract and kidney is
urinary tract is in the track or the pipes that leadin and out of the vaginal area associated with urinating
kidney infection is in the actual kidney and the tissues around it

A kidney infection is a UTI that has spread to your kidney. If you have a kidney infection, you will also have a UTI. You need to go to the clinic or doctor and get your urine tested, they should be able to tell from lab testing and your symptoms if you have a kidney infection.

Your pain could just be from muscles, ligaments, or it could be a kidney infection, best go to doctor, esp. if you have other symptoms

A kidney infection is just that, an infection of the kidney, which are located on the right and left sides of the midback. It causes pain in the back and is sensitive if you pound lightly on that area with your fist. A urinary tract infection causes pain and burning when you urinate. Both of these conditions require immediate medical attention.
The large intestine is located on the left side of the body. If you have problems with constipation, especially now that you are pregnant, that might be why you are experiencing pain. Ask your doctor what he/she thinks.
