worry about your health first. if you end up with a kidney problem due to your urinary problems then you are really going to be in a mess without insurance. i would call a couple urologists in the phone book, explain your situation and see if they are able to work with you on the financing. someone will offer to help. if not, then just go see the doctor and worry about paying later. I am a nurse and I will try to help you. First of all, you don't have to go to a specialist. You can just go to the health department. They'll do a Urinalysis and possibly and Culture and Sensitivity to diagnose what's wrong. Could be an STD (sorry). Anyway, that'll tell them what antibiotic to presribe. Also, I have no doubt someone is going to recommend cranberry juice. CJ is good for preventing a UTI but won't take care of an existing one. BUT, I recommend you start having some everyday because once you've had a UTI, you're likely to get another one (ABT doesn't kill all the bacteria even if you take the full dose). And by the way, get the real CJ from the health food section. Put about 60 mls in a glass, dilute it in water, and add sugar to taste. Don't take more than that a day because it will depleat your potassium level (which would disrupt regular contractions of the heart). Hope that helps. References :
I'm guessing you have already gone to your primary care and they have suggested you see a urologist. CALL the urologist's office and they will tell you how much an office visit and urinalysis are. Go to the drug store, and get some AZO standard, take as directed, and then see if you still need to go to a specialist.
