how do you treat a cat urinary track infection and what are the general signs that your cat may have one?

my cat is like 15 years old, she has been squatting on the carpet recently which she has never done before and she has been in the litter box more often than usual. I'm afraid somethings wrong so I need some info on why she could be doing this.

yes that is definately a symptom. they are very painful – you need to get her to the vet asap.

Attention Ladies, this is Suzi, many people have been writing in asking what the stuff was that I used to clear up my UTI last week, so I wanted to put the link to this stuff here

it does sound like you need to get her checked for a uti. something else could always be wrong, but when cats get a uti, they often go to the restroom outside of the litter box because they're associating the pain of "going" with the litter box, so they avoid it. treating it involves a trip to your vet, and some antibiotics, routinely. sometimes the length of the infection and how much medicine it takes to get rid of it depends on the severity of the infection.
i've had uti's, and they aren't fun, so please get her checked out! good luck

GO TO THE VET IMEDIATLY!!! save 15 min. of ur life and just call the vet instead of asking random people on the internet who most likely dont always know what they are talkin about! :D my cat had this and if u dont get ur cat to the vet ASAP he could end up at the "rainbow bridge"!

You are right to assume that there is probably a medical reason for this. You will have to take her to the vet to know for sure, and she will probably prescribe antibiotics for your kitty. My cat has had very frequent UTI's, and it is also helpful to of course make sure she is getting plenty of water, as well as try something called Cosequin, which is glucosamine for cats (Drs. Foster and Smith website). It helps reduce swelling in the bladder and comes in powder form to sprinkle on her food. If she tolerates it (no diarrhea) try giving her wet food which contains more water, from time to time. Make sure you are keeping her kitty box extra clean, too. Are there any new stressors in your home? She may reacting to these. BTW, the Cosequin will also help arthritis, which she may be experiencing at her age. Good luck!

could be a bladder or urinary tract infection or it could be a sign of diabetes. Think you need to take your cat to the vet for a check up…at her age anything can be happening.
