My cat has urinary track infection?

My cat diagnosed urinary track infection a year ago, so she needs to be only fed prescribed food for her life time. She has been fine, but she started having urinating problem again a couple of days ago. The vet said that they found stone that need to be removed surgically. I was wondering if cats could have this type of problem when they get severe stress from something as well. Because there was a cat bothering her when she had this problem a year ago. Now I adopted two kittens about five months ago and she still love them being around her and constantly hissing at them.

Stress is the likely culprit.
Adding new family members to your home can be overwhelming to an already afflicted cat.
Stress can curb a healthy cats appetite and cause urinary tract issues.
If the vet has taken radiographs and has seen a stone in the bladder it must be too big to pass..
If that is the case surgical removal and analysis of the stone is required.
It may be she needs a different therapuetic diet to dissolve the particular type of stones she is producing.
I would encourge you to purchase a couple of feliway diffusers for your home.
Feliway is a synthetic phermone that alleviates stress in cats.
It works like a glade plug in but you will not smell it yourself.
Also there are nutraceuticals that can help alleviate the pain she is likely feeling from these stones.
Cosequin sprinkles is a joint lubricant that also lubricates the bladder wall.
You sprinkle it on the cats food (its tuna flavored) and should be given indefinitely.
Also Omega fatty acids(fish oil) are natures anti inflammatory.
Any cat who has feline lower urinary tract disease,stones/crystals or are prone to infections we recommend both cosequin and omega fatty acids to alleviate discomfort.

So yes you are right in thinking stress is the likely cause of this.
Go to the pet store and you will find the feliway diffusers, cosequin and likely an omega fatty acid supplement.
Typically vets carry (otc) better omega fatty acids than pet stores.
Better being no mercury content.

I wish you the best of luck and your cat a quick recovery!

  1. I wouldn’t rule stress out completely, but urinary stones are normally the crystallization of magnesium (I think that’s the one) from the cat’s diet. The crystals can build up like kidney or bladder stones in people.

The special diet your cat is on helps by reducing the salts that contribute the most to the disorder, but they don’t necessarily eliminate it entirely.

As for her hissing at newcomers, that’s pretty normal for the established cat to be unhappy about new ones being introduced into the household. If she had the UTI and had new kitten energy to deal with all at once, I’m not surprised she’s grumpy.

Good luck with your cat-pack. :)
