My cat has a urinary tract infection, need help, preferablly a vets?

I noticed my cat had a urinary tract infection about 4 months ago, she pees blood, a week or two ago we started feeding her food for urinary tract. Now instead of the dark red, it is now bright red, is this a good or bad sign. I would take the cat to the vets office but we are broke and cannot afford it.
If I really wanted my cat to die, do you think I would own a damn cat and try to find out what I can do to help her? I tried calling the SPCA but they are not cheap either, trying to find a place that can do payment plans so dont ask stupid questions, and your answer has nothing to do with my question.. So if your answer has NOTHING to do with my question BUZZ OFF
oh cat lover, I didnt realize she was pissing blood till she peed on some paper, but why I say about 4 months is because shes been peeing on the carpert for that long and I thought it was because I had a baby about 6 months ago. And this is not animal abuse animal abuse would be not caring and just putting her life at end right now, I love cats, shes had shots, so stop jumping to conclusions and shut the f*** up

Treatment of the symptoms will depend on the underlying condition. Infections of the urinary tract can be treated with antibiotics. Blockage and bladder stones can be surgically and medically treated. Cats with urinary crystals can be treated with behavior modification (increase water consumption, etc.), as well as medications. If a cat is in kidney failure, treatment options include subcutaneous fluids, diuresis (via intravenous fluid), and kidney transplants.

While any symptom of feline lower urinary tract disease may have serious implications, over half of the cases (especially in younger cats) will not show signs of physiological illness in any of the diagnostic tests. This is called idiopathic feline lower urinary tract disease, and will generally resolve over time. Sometimes the symptoms (especially with cats that urinate in inappropriate places) are stress and behavior-oriented; it is possible to alleviate these problems by removing the stress, eliminating odors in marked areas, as well as anti-anxiety medication.

Attention Ladies, this is Suzi, many people have been writing in asking what the stuff was that I used to clear up my UTI last week, so I wanted to put the link to this stuff here

If you cannot afford a vet you shouldn't have pets. Your cat needs to see a vet now. If you cannot afford to take care of your cat give it to someone who can. All you are doing is prolonging the inevitable and making it worse. Do you want your cat to die?

  3. Oh my god! you have been making this cat suffer for 4 MONTHS! That is animal abuse and cruelty. Please take your cat to the vet TODAY like right now! If you can't afford pets please do the animals a favor and not have one.

Immagine having a urinary tract infection for 4 months you would have been to the doctor right away. why are you making your cat wait so long.

Please surrender your cat! you don't deserve one!

    A vet is absolutely necessary.

If you can't afford it, there's something else you can do. For one, find out if your vet would be willing to set up a payment plan. Or is there anyone from whom you can borrow the money for this emergency?

If your vet won't do it, try another clinic.

Worst case, perhaps you could take it to a local shelter, such as the Humane Society, and explain your situation. They might have ideas that will help.

But seriously, if this is just a bad time that's one thing, but if your financial situation is always this bleak, then you really should consider not having a pet like this. I know how great it is to have a pet, but cats can be expensive. Perhaps you'd be better off with a bird or hamster? I don't say that to be funny or mean – it's just a fact of life.

Also see the link below for some other ideas to get help for you and your cat.

Also see the link to learn more about UTI's in cats. And I'd like to suggest that instead of the urinary food you're giving your cat that you simply feed it canned food. I don't know if you got the food from the vet – if you did I'm sure it cost a lot. If you went with a less expensive grocery store brand, that's ok, but if it's dry food it's not good. It won't cure the UTI; those foods are only designed to prevent future ones.

If you do get the cat taken care of and plan to keep it, then just feed it canned food. That'll help more than the "specialty" food will. If you can't afford good brands, then wlovever you find at the grocery store would still be an improvement.

You really need to take your cat to the vets office to get her treated as there is no home remedy for this kind of condition. Peeing blood, whether it be dark or bright red is never a good thing,. Ifshe developes crystals in her urine she could have a blockage and pass on, or the infection could spread into other parts of her body. If money is a problem, most vets will work with you to get on a payment plan and there are very low rate loans out there specifically for medical expenses. Please take her to the vet. Please.

I'm not a vet, but I have 10 cats, two of which have suffered UTI in the past. Your cat needs antibiotics. From what you have described, she has a severe blockage and is bleeding. She is in pain. You are on the right track by giving her the UT health food, but the blockage is too great to be fixed by the food alone.

I understand being broke and not having enough money (I've been in that situation before), but there really is no home remedy for this one. See if there's something you can do without for a while and use the money to get your cat to the vet. If you have a friend or relative that could possibly loan you the money, then do that.

I am a curator but do know some about being a vet. The color of the blood could affected by a number of things. One is iron(it darkens the blood). Also the germs that where in the blood darken and change the color. It is a good sign but keep taking the cat to the vet to permenantly treat the infection.

Your cat needs antibiotics. Take her to the vet, trust me, they care about your pets. They will work out a payment plan. However, they might consider taking the cat, and putting it in a no-kill humane shelter, because you can't afford to take care of it. I know you don't like this answer, but it's the sad truth. Good Luck.

  9. old cat lady says:

Blood that is dark red is "old" blood, bright red is from active bleeding.

Apply for CareCredit or borrow money somehow to get the cat to the vet again. Urinary crystals can cause the bleeding – not all urinary problems have infections to be treated and the crystals must be eliminated so the cat is not in pain and can expel the urine from her body. Otherwise she can die of renal failure in 48 hours.

  10. you really do need to get your cat to a vet. try to tell them your situation about not being able to pay and see if they can hold a check for you. or do some payments. this could be something worse than a UTI. since the blood has change colors that really worries me. usually in a basic case of UTI you cant actaully see the blood. vet's use whats called a Chem-Strip. they poor urine on a strip that has little colored bubbles and then in about one minute shows what the problem is by the colors on the strip changing. and this is what usualy tells us there is blood in the urine. call around every vet you can find. a food will not cure a UTI. the food is usually just a preventative not a cure. but you should keep on this food to helped prevent this in the future. If you have anymore questions, just message me! Hope this really helped. God Bless♥

Vet care is so damned expensive, my kitten got a urinary tract infection (UTI) during my final exams (of course!), and they wanted to keep her overnight…and we couldn't afford people food, let alone taking her to the vet overnight. I felt like the worst person in the world because I couldn't afford to take my precious kitty to the hospital…

What makes you think it's a UTI? Kidney issues could also make her pee red. The really scary part of UTIs is when they stop peeing…all the toxins in her little bladder are trapped inside her and could kill her – that's emergency vet clinic time!

Is your cat drinking a lot of water? You might want to invest in a fountain water dish so she has running water – some cats don't like the still water in water dishes…or you could leave your taps on to make sure she's still drinking.

Bright red is a decent sign (assuming animals and people have similar anatomy)…but you really should get your cat to a vet…or if there's a university that trains vets try that…or call a vet and ask for a payment plan or see if there are "low income" vets available.

The blood really doesn't fit with the UTI…in a urinary tract infection, the pee tube becomes inflamed and it hurts her to pee and ultimately the pee tube becomes so inflamed that she cannot pee at all. She may have kidney stones or kidney failure…When my kitten had her UTI, she would not let you touch her belly – she would growl and hiss. She sat infront of the heat vent and wouldn't move…

…(before everyone starts ripping on me, she was only hurting for a day. She was lethargic, she was still peeing (droplets)…so I force-fed her water and cuddled her all night…she was better the day after so a trip to the vet became unnecessary…that was last year, she's been fine since!)

Hi my cat Little Mo had a similar problem. The infection will clear up if you can get them to drink enough water. We fed our cat and still do as the problem reoccurs we don't with dry cat food (we use whiskas complete as this is designed for urinery tract care). No wet food this incourage her to drink more and so clears up the infection. Make sure you have lots of fresh water about. See my page about urinery tract infection below. Good Luck :)
