If a cat has a urinary tract infection, is there blood in the urine?

Also, can a urinary tract infection last until it's cured by antibiotics, or does it eventually go away? Because one of my cats has been going on the carpet for quite some time now.

Yes, you will see blood and your cat will show signs of pain while urinating. You'll need to take her to the vet where he/she will run a test confirming the infection. They will give you the special food required.

My cat has been on special food for about 4 years now due to frequent urinary infections. As long as she stays on a strict diet, she's fine. I took her off twice and the infection came back. I learned a good lesson there.

Attention Ladies, this is Suzi, many people have been writing in asking what the stuff was that I used to clear up my UTI last week, so I wanted to put the link to this stuff here

Normally there are only microscopic amounts of blood in the urine during an infection. Nothing you'd be able to just see by looking at. If you do actually see blood in the urine, your cat is in very serious trouble by that point.
Urinary infections don't just go away unfortunately. They often don't go away with even the first round of antibiotics. The urinary system is a sterile system. It is not meant to have bacteria in it, thus, an infection there is a big deal as the body won't heal it.
It will just get worse and worse till it's also a kidney infection..

You need to get the cat to the vet ASAP!!! UTI's can be fatal and they can also lead to a blocked urinary tract which requires surgery to unblock. I have a cat that this has happened to twice in the last year and the first time he almost died. He now has to eat prescription food from the vet and that food ONLY. The last time he was on antibiotics for 18 days plus a muscle relaxer to keep him from tensing up when he went to use his box. Cats are very hard to tell if they are ill and a lot of times it too late by the time you realize kitty is sick. Please get you cat to the vet ASAP. I was awake for almost 3 days the last time this happened to my cat just to make sure he was peeing and peeing normally. Does your kitty strain when going?? If it is it's probably blocked and this can happen to females as well as males but more common to males. Yes there is blood in the urine when an infection is present and also when they are blocked. The cat going on the carpet is a sign to you that something is wrong, it is trying to get your attention to alert you that it is not well.

Yes. There is blood in a cat's urine if it has a urinary tract infection. It will ususally not go away on its own, so your best priority would be to take it to the vet, and they will give you some antibiotics that will take care of the infection.

Cats are very tolerant to pain and will eat, purr, and snuggle to attract your attention even while in pain. This behavioral pattern makes is all the more difficult as these could be demonstrations of out-of-cat-litter-box experiences signaling feline UTI.

It is up to you to determine whether your cat has UTI or not. For this a fair understanding of the UTI symptoms in cats is necessary.

To determine whether your pet cat has urinary tract infection or not, check out the following symptoms:

    Pain while urinating
    Frequent urination
Small or no urine at all
    Excessive grooming of genitals
    Crying while doing it
Blood in urine is almost a certain symptom of urinary infection in cats.

If your cat has stopped using its litter box and urinates outside of it, you can suspect presence of UTI.

As urination becomes a painful exercise your cat will start associating it with the litter box and try to avoid it and urinate outside of it. If it does so, on a light colored surface, you can look for traces of blood and seek help for treating the disorder.

Do not let go untreated….take your cat to a VET ASAP.

Avoid feedng cats food with FISH products in it. Microsopic bones can cause blockages in the urinary tract.

The most common cause of feline urinary tract disorders is urolithiasis, a condition where stones are formed from accumulation of crystals in the urinary tract. This condition can be sever and result in complete blockage of urinary tract and prevent urination totally.
